The UNIDO Investment Promotion Unit (IPU) in Jordan is organizing in close cooperation with the Jordan Investment Board an Investment and Trade Forum in Amman, Jordan, on 18, 19 and 20 June 2006. The IPU in Jordan is part of the UNIDO ITPO network as well as of the UNIDO Mediterranean-Arab Network formed by the ITPOs (Bahrain, France, Greece, Italy) and IPUs (Egypt, Jordan, Morocco, Tunisia) operating in the Mediterranean-Arab Region.

In line with its mandate of promoting industrial cooperation between Jordan and Italy, the Unit closely interacts and coordinates its activities both with the Jordan Investment Board, its institutional counterpart, and UNIDO ITPOs in Italy and in the whole network.

The major activities of the Unit are:

enterprise level assistance:

  • formulation and promotion of investment opportunities.
  • assistance during negotiation of industrial cooperation agreements with foreign partners.
  • feasibility studies.
  • technology advice.
  • identification of financial support.

 

institutional building:

  • sectoral programmes
  • training
  • technical and financial evaluation of investment opportunities.
  • country promotion
  • enterprenuership development

 

networking:

  • networking at regional level of Jordanian firms through UNIDO ITPOs based in the Arab and Mediterranean region.

financial assistance:

  • facilitating access to a soft loan from the Italian Government made available to Jordanian SME through the local banking system for financing the purchase of equipment of Italian origin.
    • each individual loan shall not exceed lit 3,5 billion (euro 1.807 million) and shall not be lower than lit 200 million (euro 103,000)
    • the interest rates for loans denominated in jd will be 7% for Jordanian company beneficiary and 6% for Italo – Jordanian joint venture.
    • the repayment of each individual loan will not exceed 7 years plus 3 years of grace period, and not be less than 3 years plus 1 year of grace period.
