| Title | Corporate Social Responsibility and the Development Agenda: Should SMEs Care? |
| Abstract | The present paper reviews recent trends in CSR theory and practice and, in doing so, places special emphasis on their relevance for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and on the context of economic development in developing countries. It is argued that at the end of the day, CSR will only prevail and remain an important force if SMEs can be effectively engaged and if CSR can be shown to impact on the development agenda, i.e. first and foremost on enhancing productivity as a long-term determinant of economic growth. |
