Duration: 3-6 working months

Duty Station: UNIDO Headquarters in Vienna

Organizational Context: The activities of UNIDO’s Focal Points for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women are coordinated by the Gender Mainstreaming Steering Committee (GMSC) under the chairmanship of a representative of the Director-General. The representative organizes and administers the work of the GMSC. A focal point for gender equality and the empowerment of women is appointed in each division and each branch within the division. UNIDO Representatives act as focal points in their respective regions and countries. Their interests at Headquarters are represented by the Focal Point of the Regional and Field Operations Branch. The focal points shall provide support to their respective divisions/branches in their efforts towards achieving gender equality results by: a) Promoting greater awareness of gender issues, both at the organizational and programmatic levels, and a gender-sensitive work environment in their division/branch; b) Monitoring progress towards the achievement of gender targets; c) Providing information upon request on the realization of gender parity targets and thereby contributing to the development and realization of gender targets, as regards accountability, Results-based management for gender equality, Oversight through monitoring, evaluation, audit and reporting, Human and financial resources, Capacity development, Coherence, coordination and knowledge management, with a particular emphasis on sharing knowledge and coordinating action with other organizations of the United Nations system, in the context of the work of the chief executive Board (CEB), its high level committees (High-level Committee on Programmes – HLCP, High-level Committee on Management - HLCM), the Inter-Agency Network on Women and Gender Equality (IANWGE), the United Nations Development Group (UNDG), Member States and other partners are necessary to achieve coherence. Tasks: Under the overall guidance of the Chairperson, the intern will perform the following tasks:

1. Study and research UNIDO's Gender Policy;

2. Review draft decisions, resolutions and other documents of the governing bodies with regard to Gender Mainstreaming;

3. Review drafts rules of procedure, headquarters agreements and conference agreements with host governments with regard to Gender Mainstreaming;

4. Assist in the publication of the online GMSC newsletter;

4. Draft reports and perform other tasks as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualification requirements:

a.) Minimum academic background and/or field of specialisation required: first-level university degree in Social Sciences, Global Studies, Gender Studies or a related field and enrolment in a higher-level university programme.

b.) Computer literacy: Microsoft Windows, proficient use of processing tools such as Microsoft Office package (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) is required.

c.) Language skills: Fluency in English required, good knowledge of another official UN working language desirable.

d.) Core values: integrity; professionalism; respect for diversity.

e.) Core competencies: results orientation and accountability; planning and organizing; communication and trust; team orientation; client orientation; organizational development and innovation.
