Investment Promotion Unit in Rabat

 

The Investment Promotion Unit (IPU) in Rabat started its activity in June 2001. The Unit, financed by the Cooperation Department of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is managed by UNIDO, and is hosted by the local counterpart ODI (Industrial Development Office). The office is part of the UNIDO ITPO network as well as of the UNIDO Mediterranean-Arab network formed by the ITPOs (Bahrain, France, Greece, Italy) and IPUs (Egypt, Jordan, Morocco, Tunisia) operating in the Mediterranean-Arab Region.

The IPU has the mandate to promote inflow investments to Morocco and to assist local SMEs in developing industrial cooperation projects with foreign companies.

The Unit is also responsible for the assistance given to Moroccan small and medium companies in applying to a credit line of 30 billions lira made available by the Italian Government for the Moroccan SMEs interested in purchasing Italian technology. Priority is given to the projects with a positive impact on employment, use of clean and updated technology and projects of joint ventures.

The Unit focuses on three main groups of activities:

  1. PROMOTIONAL ACTIVITIES are geared to the selection and promotion of investment opportunities in Morocco. The Unit develops opportunities studies on industrial sectors in Morocco and assists Moroccan SMEs in the identification of foreign partners on the basis of selected project proposals. The Unit assists also foreign companies in the identification of Moroccan companies interested in developing join industrial projects. Services:
    • Distribution of information on rules and regulations governing the foreign investment in Morocco
    • Assistance in the participation of selected International Fairs
    • Identification of partners
    • Sectorial studies
  2. PROJECTS COMPLETION ACTIVITIES are aimed in assisting Moroccan companies in the implementation of their industrial projects particularly from the economical and financial point of view. The Unit assists the companies in the evaluation of the feasibility of their industrial projects and provides assistance in accessing to soft financing facilities. In particular the Unit assists the Moroccan companies in their applications to the Italian credit line. Services
    • Distribution of information on possible financial facilities available for companies (local or foreign) investing in Morocco
    • Preparation of business plans
    • Co financing of feasibility studies
    • Preparation of the application for the Italian credit line
  3. CAPACITY BUILDING ACTIVITIES are developed with the aim to guarantee the sustainability of the project over the life period of the Unit. Target of the capacity building activities are mainly the public and private Institutions dealing with SMEs in the country and are mainly focused on the Investment Promotion and in the evaluation of Industrial projects.     • Experience sharing workshops for local officers and training courses on Investment promotion and Evaluation of industrial projects
    • Delegate programme
