High-level Conference on the Development of Agribusiness and Agro-industries in Africa (HLCD-3A)
Abuja, Nigeria, 8-10 March, 2010
The High-level Conference on the Development of Agribusiness & Agro-industries in Africa (HLCD-3A) was held in Abuja, Nigeria from 8 to 10 March 2010, with the support of the Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and under the auspices of the African Union (AU), the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) in cooperation with the African Development Bank (AfDB) and other partners.
Heads of State, Prime Ministers and Agriculture and Industry Ministers from 44 African countries, as well as heads and representatives of financial institutions and international organizations endorsed the African Agribusiness and Agro-industries Development Initiative, or 3ADI, an ambitious plan to generate employment, income and food security in Africa by developing agribusiness and agro-industries. The Initiative comprises a programme framework and associated financial modalities through which the public and private sectors can mobilize resources for investment in agri-food sector development in Africa.

Regional Agro-industries Forum for Asia and the Pacific
Yangling, China, 3-6 November 2009
The Regional Agro-industries Forum for Asia and the Pacific was held in Yangling, China from 3 to 6 November 2009. The Forum was a follow-up to the Global Agro-industries Forum organized by FAO, UNIDO, IFAD and the Government of India in April 2008. It aimed at assisting governments of member countries in the Asia-Pacific region in creating an enabling environment that will allow industry stakeholders to develop competitive agro-industries that incorporate smallholders as significant stakeholders in agrifood supply chains.

Expert Group Meeting: Developing a Value Chain Diagnostics Tool for Common Practice at UNIDO
Vienna, Austria, 23-25 September 2009
An Expert Group Meeting (EGM) on an Industrial Value Chain Diagnostic Tool was held in Vienna from 23-25 September 2009. The EGM aimed at reviewing existing Value Chain Development methodologies and approaches, and consolidating a diagnostics tool and methodology tailored for industrial value chain development to be commonly used at UNIDO. Twenty external value chain experts from academia, development agencies, NGOs and other UN organizations were invited to the EGM to exchange views and to present best practices in developing value chain methodologies for industrial development.

Africa Investor-UNIDO CEO Forum
Engaging the Private Sector in Support of UNIDO's Objectives in Africa
Durban, South Africa, 26-28 October 2008
Organized as a side event to the Conference of African Ministers of Industry (CAMI), the Africa Investor-UNIDO CEO Forum brought together fifty African Ministers of Industry and over forty African business leaders to consult on the African Union’s (AU) Industrialization Strategy. Private sector representatives and UNIDO technical experts also held Roundtable discussions on supplier development programs and agribusiness opportunities in Africa.
