The 2011 AFRIMETS Metrology School: An opportunity to share and receive knowledge

This Metrology School is specially designed to introduce standards, quality, accreditation and metrology infrastructure to young African metrologists and to provide technical training addressing legal and scientific/industrial metrology requirements in selected fields. It is designed for participants from African developing economies and specifically for members of AFRIMETS.

The 10 day Metrology School will focus on the balanced presentation of basic knowledge in legal and scientific/industrial metrology in theory and practice including field visits to enterprises to witness applied metrology.

The training aims to bring together young metrologists from over 40 countries across Africa to learn from best international practice and exchange experiences of their countries.

The metrology school is specially created for legal and scientific/industrial metrologists in the early stages of their career that wish to intensify and expand their knowledge and want to contribute to their national and continental metrology development.

Expected Results

At the end of the course, delegates will have received significant introductions to the components of the four pillars of a National Quality Infrastructure. In addition, delegates will have received instruction on aspects of scientific/industrial and legal metrology which will enable them to be conversant with the international requirements of the BIPM and the OIML.

Delegates will be prepared to contribute to their national metrology institutions with applicable technical knowledge in SI units, measurement uncertainty, mass measurement, dimensional metrology, electrical metrology and thermometry, all highly required to improve confidence in measurement essential to ensure consumer protection and fair international trade.
