The 3rd LAC Expert Group Meeting

During UNIDO GC.13, a resolution was adopted (GC.13/Res.2), in which GRULAC requested UNIDO to organize and hold the 3rd LAC Regional Expert Group Meeting (3rd LAC EGM).

The present proposal aims at strengthening the local agro-industrial value-chains and to articulate the national stakeholders of this sector. For achieving this objective, an innovative way of cooperation between the LAC countries and UNIDO has been defined with a view to making the most of:
i) available UNIDO resources for the region; and
ii) the own resources of LAC countries for strengthening their productive sectors, by following a tripartite scheme:

1. Preparatory phase of the 3rd EGM, in which UNIDO will enhance dialogue and communication with the countries through rounds of Video Conferences (VCs) with the national Consultative Groups, to be established with the support of GRULAC and constituted by the main UNIDO technical counterparts in the countries related to the topic of the agroindustrial value chain (i.e. technical experts from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Industry / Economy, Planning/Cooperation, etc.). The objective of this preparatory phase is to identify and develop profiles and strategies of the national value chains of each of the participating countries.

2. Holding of the 3rd LAC EGM in Costa Rica (1 - 2 February 2011) with selected technical experts from the constituted National Consultative Groups. The objective of this central phase is to have a forum for presenting the profiles of the countries and jointly evaluate technical and funding synergies at the national and regional levels.

3. Follow-up of the conclusions and recommendations of the 3rd EGM by implementing concrete technical cooperation activities at local, sub-regional and regional levels.
