UNIDO Brussels Office supports EU-Africa Business Forum
TRIPOLI, 28 November 2010 – Around 500 participants attended an EU-Africa Business Forum (EABF) during the Africa-EU Heads of States Summit that ended in Tripoli today.
The three-day event was jointly organized by the European Union, the African Union, the Government of Libya, UNIDO, and the private sector.
Participants agreed on recommendations for the EU-Africa Heads of States Summit which took place on the 29th of November.
The recommendations highlighted issues related to UNIDO’s work, including on renewable energy, value addition to agricultural commodities and investment promotion to boost the African business landscape.
UNIDO Director-General Kandeh K. Yumkella, spoke at the event focusing on the challenges facing Africa. He also took part in a high level roundtable that brought together African and European CEOs, the European Union Commissioner for Development, Andris Piebalgs, and African Union Commission President, Jean Ping.
UNIDO’s Africa Investment Promotion Agency Network (AfrIPAnet) used the opportunity to create partnerships with the European Investment and Technology Promotion Offices (ITPOs) to encourage quality investments and share information on how to best deliver them.
As a member of the EABF steering group, the UNIDO Brussels Office together with colleagues from the headquarters in Vienna contributed to the success of the event.
