Brussels, 18 November 2010 – This year the Africa Industrialization Day 2010 was marked under the motto “competitive industries for the development of Africa". The event is organized by the ACP secretariat, the African Commission and UNIDO.
The celebration took place at the ACP secretariat in Brussels and gathered more than 60 personalities of the African and international community. The issue of competitive industries was discussed in the light of forthcoming EU Africa Business Forum, where UNIDO will play an important role as a co-sponsor and co-organizer of the event.
The welcome message by Mohamed Ibn Chambas, Secretary General of the ACP Secretariat was followed by a brief introduction Christophe Yvetot, representative to the European Union. A message on the behalf of Ban Ki-moon was delivered by Antonio Vigilante, representative of the UN Secretariat General to the European Union followed by a joint message from AU, UNECA, UNIDO by Cheikh Tidiane Niang, the African Union Representative in Brussels.
In additions representatives from the European Commission and the private sector explained their role and vision for Africa’s development and doing business in Africa.
