The Conference of African Ministers of Industry, 27-31 March 2011, Algiers, Algeria
Theme: Enhancing Competitiveness of the African Industries through Increased and Improved Value Addition
The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), the African Union and the Government of Algeria are organizing a Conference of African Ministers of Industry (CAMI 19) under the theme “Enhancing competitiveness of the African industries through increased and improved value addition” from 27 to 31 March in Algiers.
Participants will deliberate on the effective implementation of the “Action Plan for the Accelerated Industrial Development of Africa “ (AIDA) and discuss sustainable industrial development in Africa.
UNIDO Director-General Kandeh K. Yumkella is attending the conference together with African Ministers of Industry and the Under Secretary-General of United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), Abdoulie Janneh.
The deliberations will also take into account the outcomes and recommendations of the March 2010 Abuja High-Level Conference on Agribusiness and Agro-industries to ensure the integration of the two in the AIDA implementation.
In addition, UNIDO will hold a private sector side event under the theme “Mobilizing Investment for Africa’s Agribusiness and Agro-industries: Challenges, Opportunities and Feasible Options” and a round table event on the pharmaceutical industry in developing countries.
CAMI is a statutory conference established in 1975 as a pan-African response to promote accelerated and sustainable industrial development. Held every two years, CAMI serves as a forum for African leaders and other stakeholders to discuss and review progress made towards Africa’s industrialization.
