Ministerial Conference of the LDCs 2008

19-20 November, Siem Reap, Cambodia: An industrial agenda for LDCs

As a follow-up to the 2007 Ministerial Conference on “How can Aid for Trade transform LDCs?” which was hosted in Vienna by UNIDO in collaboration with the G-77, and further to the recent Kigali workshop, UNIDO, in collaboration with the Government of Cambodia and WTO, was holding another LDCs Ministerial Conference in Siem Reap from 19 to 20 November 2008.

The Conference participants were welcomed by H.E. Dr. Cham Prasidh, Senior Minister, Minister of Commerce, Kingdom of Cambodia. Subsequently, the Conference was officially opened by H.E. Mr. Hun Sen, Prime Minister of Cambodia.

The Conference brought together over 40 high-level delegations from LDCs as well as the executive heads of UNIDO and WTO, Dr. Kandeh Yumkella and Mr. Pascal Lamy. Also, UNCTAD and ITC as well as other development actors were represented.

The Conference is an important step in the broader, multi-level process through which UNIDO, in collaboration with other actors involved in the Aid for Trade (AfT) and Enhanced Integrated Framework (EIF) processes, will continue the dialogue on how best to use these instruments to build supply capacities in LDCs.
