UNIDO, provides support to the Turkish Government with projects and technical activities as an implementing agency, for the compliance of the country with the international agreements signed as a party.
UNIDO activities implemented in Turkiye, on the Environment and Energy Thematic Area are listed below:
MONTREAL PROTOCOL ACTIVITIES NATIONAL PROGRAMME
The main aim of the Montreal Protocol National Programme, implemented in cooperation with the National Ozone Unit established under the T.R. Ministry of Environment and Urbanisation, General Directorate of Environmental Management, Department of Climate Change can be summarized as;
the implementation of the relevant activities, mainly facilitation of the provision of financial and technical support for the sectoral practices to be defined and realized in accordance with the national strategy to be detailed with the HCFC Phaseout Management Plan, for the fulfilment of the obligations of the country defined under the Protocol.
In the last decade, the projects on the phaseout of MeBr and CFCs, which UNIDO was the implementing agency, has been completed; and by October 2011, 6 project and preparatory activities are ongoing.

ECO-EFFICIENCY (CLEANER PRODUCTION) PROGRAMME
UNIDO Eco-efficiency (Cleaner Production) Project, under UN Joint Programmme, MDG-F 1680: Enhancing the Capacity of Turkey to Adapt to Climate Change has been started in June 2008. The project has been executed together with Technology Development Foundation of Turkey (TTGV). The project objectives are to build capacity in the country on eco-efficiency (Cleaner Production), to implement 6 pilot project to reduce water consumption in industrial sectors and to support establishing National Eco-efficiency Center in the country. The project deadline is 31st December 2011. The project web sites are “www.ekoverimlilik.org”and “www.ecoefficiency-tr.org”.
