Tackling Energy Poverty In Africa to Increase Productivity and Economic Development
VIENNA, 20 November 2011 – The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) is organizing a symposium in Vienna on Monday, to mark Africa Industrialization Day.
Based on UNGA Resolution 44/237of 22 December 1989, Africa Industrialization Day (AID) is celebrated each year on 20 November. It allows for interactions on strategies related to the sustainable industrial development of Africa, including the evaluation of results as well as the identification of achievements and future challenges.
For this year, and taking into account that 2012 has been named the international year of “Sustainable Energy for All”, the AUC and the CAMI Bureau have suggested focusing on energy; after several consultations, the following title was agreed upon either “Tackling Energy Poverty In Africa to Increase Productivity and Economic Development”.
The Director-General of UNIDO, Kandeh K. Yumkella, and the Mrs. Mazlan Othman, Deputy Director-General of UNOV will attend the event.
The symposium will be followed by a reception.
