The Fourth Assembly of the Global Environment Facility (GEF), held once every three to four years, is a strategic opportunity for GEF stakeholders to meet, take stock, and collectively strengthen strategies and actions for protecting the global environment and achieving sustainable development. UNIDO will organize a side-event which will focus on selected GEF-UNIDO’s projects in Asia, Europe, and Latin America. The aim is to better inform GEF stakeholders on the wide range of projects that contributes towards UNIDO’s Green Industry Initiative. In particular, discussions will centre on the following areas: Energy systems’ efficiency and energy management, Renewable energy for industrial applications and productive uses, Best Available Techniques and Best Environmental Practices, Transfer of Environmentally Sound Technologies and Large Marine Ecosystems, Phase out of HCFCs and promotion of HFC-free energy efficient refrigeration and air-conditioning systems.

The Training on Assessment and Management of Contaminated Sites will be conducted at the University of Strathclyde and delegates from countries which are Parties to the Stockholm Convention will attend. The training workshop will bring together regulators, scientists, consultants and developers to build understanding of the interactions among government agencies and private enterprise in the management and control of POPs releases.

The 4th Workshop on Reduction of Unintentional POPs in East Asian Countries
The 4th Workshop on Reduction of Unintentional Persistent Organic Pollutants (U-POPs) in East Asian Countries was held in Tokyo, Japan, on 14th-15th December 2010. The workshop was attended by administrative officers and experts from 11 East Asian countries (Kingdom of Cambodia, People’s Republic of China, Republic of Indonesia, Japan, Republic of Korea, Lao People's Democratic Republic, Malaysia, Mongolia, Republic of Singapore, Kingdom of Thailand and Socialist Republic of Vietnam). Also there were participants from the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) and United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), the United States of America, Federal Republic of Germany, United Nation University (UNU), as well as many observers.
