The United Nations Industrial Development Organization and the Ministry of Environment of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan co-organized 2nd Eco-Cities of the Mediterranean Forum held in Marseille from October 11-12, 2011 under the framework of the Mediterranean Economic Week.

The Forum brought together local authorities of the region, representatives from intergovernmental and non-governmental organizations and private sector leaders to discuss solutions to environmental challenges which promote both economic growth and social responsibility. There was a focus on a multi-stakeholder discussion of the main thematic areas of water and waste management, as well as cross-cutting topics such as energy efficiency and financing mechanisms. The Forum consisted of a plenary session to discuss the main topics, as well as technical workshops held in parallel to address some of the topics in more detail.
