Solution Forum1: Energy, Climate Change and Industrial Development

The first forum will present solutions that use renewable energy, energy efficiency and innovations in clean technology to foster sustainable industrial development and mitigate climate change.

After presenting potential barriers to the implementation of renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies in the industry, the forum will provide solutions that have proven results on the ground and whose cross-cutting impacts are sustainable, replicable and relevant.

Solutions will include renewable energy generation and supply through (i) on-grid connection for all forms of industrial and productive use applications, (ii) off-grid (mini grids) for SMEs and productive uses, and (iii) energy services as a business sector.

Solutions will take a variety of forms including Southern-grown solutions, South-South partnership solutions, North- South-South triangular partnership solutions, and PPP solutions. Furthermore, each solution will need to demonstrate that it has contributed to the creation of green jobs and/or enhanced the competitiveness of a community, company or other entities.

Additionally, the Solution Forum will look at energy efficiency measures and technologies central to mitigating the effects of climate change. It is worth noting that improvements in energy efficiency not only reduce GHG emissions but also create jobs, foster economic growth and improve energy security. Management practices will also be explored as they are essential for sustainable energy efficiency and since the promotion of energy management systems in industry is also critical to accelerate the transformation of the market.
