Management of equipment and investigation derived waste

When investigating contaminated sites, unfortunately a certain amount of hazardous waste may be produced during drilling, sampling, measurement activities, etc. Therefore, management of potentially contaminated investigation derived waste (IDW) will be necessary during site investigation.

Moreover, it is important to consider that investigation and sampling activities constitute a potential risk of contamination of initially less or not contaminated media. In any case, contamination can occur due to contaminated equipment or tools employed during these activities, transmission by involved staff or due to contamination dispersion from some samples to others (cross-contamination). In order to avoid cross contamination, appropriate practices and procedures, like correct cleaning of equipment and tools, must be taken into account.
