Four years after the ending of the quota-based trade regime in the textile and clothing sectors, this paper compares the ex-ante simulation estimates with the real trade data flows. The ex-post analysis shows that the ex-ante estimations are not fully borne out. (March 2010)

Foreign direct investment (FDI) is an important driver of economic performance, as it is expected to improve directly industrial productivity growth by infusing new capital, technologies and managerial know-how, and by improving the average skills and efficiency levels of industry. UNIDO supports the MCI by identifying investment opportunities using its established tools and methodologies including the project appraisal software COMFAR. (November 2009)

Aid for Trade: A Global Call for Action. UNIDO’s Contribution

Extraction Technologies for Medicinal and Aromatic Plants
This book focuses on different techniques of hydrodistillation, steam distillation, cohobation and fractional distillation of volatile oils from aromatic plants and on water-solvent extraction and supercritical fluid extraction for medicinal plant extracts. Greening of Industry under the Montreal Protocol. Background Paper

Public Goods For Economic Development: Compendium of Background Papers
In 2005, UNIDO initiated a research project on public goods for economic development, with the objective to contribute to the understanding of the role of public goods in economic development and how specific public goods, urgently needed for economic development, can be provided efficiently, within the context of intensified globalization. The ultimate goal of the research project was to inform policymaking at national, regional and international level, focusing on the United Nations system in particular.The Compendium brings together, in three parts, selected background papers in the context of this UNIDO research project. The first part presents papers addressing a number of specific thematic issues related to the five core thematic areas: financial stability, knowledge, market efficiency and integration, environment and global governance. The second includes regional studies. The third gives the deliberation for the 2005 UNIDO Conference on International Public Goods. These background papers, combined with a set of review literature on public goods in its modern use, and the deliberations of the UNIDO 2005 Conference on International Public Goods for Economic Development, were integrated in the final report "Public Goods for Economic Development".

CSR Perceptions and Activities of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Seven Geographical Clusters. Survey Report
Concentrating on UNIDO supported clusters of enterprises within one industrial sector; the authors investigated the behaviour of SMEs with respect to their social responsibility. Their findings derive from surveys conducted in India, Ecuador and Senegal, and are summarised in this consolidated report. (2008)

Agricultural Mechanization in Africa... Time for Action
UNIDO and FAO decided to convene an expert group meeting (EGM) with the objectives of reviewing the current situation and constraints on agricultural mechanization in Africa and of recommending ways through which these could be tackled to support economic growth and poverty reduction. This EGM, attended by participants from all over sub-Saharan Africa as well as other parts of the world, was held in Vienna, Austria on 29 to 30 November 2007. (2008)
