Workshop for "Economic and technical benefits obtained from the optimization of some selected processes by NCPCs and NCPPs"

The workshop was inaugurated by Mr. Longo from ICS Trieste,and Ms. Sanchez from UNIDO CP Unit. The opening speeches focused onthe added value and benefits for the NCPCs deriving from thecombination of the Cleaner Production approach and the toolsoffered by ICS Trieste.

The specialists from ICS Trieste organized the first session of the workshop on new tools and methodologies, which can be combined with Cleaner Production. This session focused on the following topics: Environmental performance index (WAR); Pollutant Release and Transfer Register (PRTR), and Environmental simulation and GIS.

The second part of the workshop was dedicated to the presentation of the results achieved by the participants in the previous trainings through the utilization of the process simulation software in national companies. The following processes were presented:

• Sweetening natural gas with DEA solution
• Ethanol production from molasses
• Multiple effect evaporation of sugar mill 'la Chontalpa'
• CO2 absorption in soft drinks
• Ethanol from molasses
• Synthetic conjugate vaccine against Haemophilus influenzae type b
• Refined soybean oil production
• Physical refining of soybean oil
