Official inauguration of the Serbian NCPC

The event took place on 11/10 at a jointly organizedside-event of the Serbian Ministry of Environment and UNIDO duringthe 6th Ministerial Conference „Environment for Europe“ in SavaCenter. More than 50 representatives from industry, academia,chamber of commerce, Ministry for Environment, NGO’s and donorcountries participated in the inauguration, which was moderated byMs. Ivanca Popovic, Dean of the Faculty of Technology andMetallurgy, the host institution of the NCPC.

Mr. Dragin, Serbian Minister for Environment; Ms.Dara Bokan, deputy Chancellor of the Belgrade University; Mr. Lance Clark, UN Resident Coordinator - Serbia; Mrs. Urlike Hartmann, Chargée d`Affaires a.i. of the Austrian Embassy in Serbia; Mr. Dimitrij Grcar, Head of Multilateral Economic Relations Division of Slovenia; Mr. Branko Dunjic, director of the Serbian NCPC and Ms. Petra Schwager, the UNIDO project manager, took part in the opening and gave short presentations.

In his speech the Minister explicitly thanked UNIDO for the very good cooperation and underlined the important role of the Centre in coordinating existing and future CP activities in the country and promoting public and private partnership on local, national and regional level. Both donor representatives underlined their satisfaction about the results achieved, so far, and expressed full support to UNIDO’s work in the field of Cleaner Production. The NCPC director informed about the results of the preparatory project in 2006. In close cooperation with the Faculty, 12 national CP experts were trained and CP assessments successfully carried out in six companies.

At the end of the inauguration, Ms. Petra Schwager presented the UNIDO award for outstanding CP performance of companies to Mr. Sasa Miletic, deputy general manager of “GALENIKA-FITOFARMACIJA” from Zemun. Mr. Miletic thanked UNIDO and confirmed his company’s full support in promoting and further developing CP activities and the work of the NCPC.
