SAICM projects in El Salvador and Peru

The project in El Salvador aims at strengthening national institutional coordination for chemicals management, to undertake lifecycle research as well as assessments on chemicals of concern and to develop national guidance, measures and capacities.
In Peru the goal of the project is to strengthen the institutional, regulatory and technical frameworks for chemicals management establishing an Intergovernmental Committee in order to develop a National Strategy for Chemicals Management.
During the 4th meeting of the Trust Fund Implementation Committee of the QSP of the SAICM on 30 November in New York City the above-stated projects were approved and their implementation is expected to start at the beginning of 2008.
The SAICM Secretariat also planned the regional SAICM meeting for Latin America, which will be held on 14-16 February 2008 in Panama. A side event of UNIDO, in which the regional activities undertaken within the framework of the Regional CP Programme will be presented, is planned for the 16 February 2008.
