Integration of CSR in Government Strategies

Aligning CSR strategies with wider public policy objectives

UNIDO supports governments in the development of national CSR strategies and policies.

One of the first steps in this process focuses on assessing more in depth general strategies of governments (in the fields of poverty reduction, employment creation, community engagement, good governance, gender issues, natural resource management, environmental protection, youth employment, corruption, etc.) and to explore to what extend the encouragement of socially and environmentally responsible business practices in the private sector could make a contribution to the achievement of the goals envisaged in those strategies.

The view is that there is huge potential for building cross linkages through the elaboration of a national CSR policy that would have valuable spill over effects on the economy and contribute to the achievement of national poverty reduction (and related) strategies through the active involvement of the business community.
