NY seminar to focus on resource efficiency in the context of sustainable development and Rio+20

NEW YORK, 11 April 2012 - The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), in cooperation with the Governments of Germany, the Philippines and Switzerland, will organize a seminar on "Resource Efficiency in the Context of Sustainable Development and Rio+20" in New York on 20 April.

At the event a panel of distinguished speakers will address three interlinked themes: the importance of resource efficiency for sustainable development; financing resource efficiency in industry; and the contribution of energy efficiency to resource efficiency and sustainable development.

There will also be a presentation of the findings of UNIDO’s Industrial Development Report 2011 on “Industrial energy efficiency for sustainable wealth creation: capturing environmental, economic and social dividends”.

Participants at the event will include high-level representatives of Permanent Missions, United Nations agencies, academia, the private sector and civil society.
