Enabling activities to facilitate early action on the implementation of the Stockholm Convention on persistent organic pollutants
Lesotho faces a requirement to meet the obligations of the Stockholm Convention and to manage the reduction/elimination of Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) within the overreaching framework of the Strategic Approach to International Chemicals Management (SAICM) adopted by the international community in February 2006.
The project is designed to strengthen national capacity and capability to prepare a National Implementation Plan (NIP) with fully budgeted action plans for the management of enabling activities to facilitate early action on the implementation of the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) in Botswana.
The project will also raise awareness of POPs issues and the Stockholm Convention; train task teams on inventory taking activities; and prepare preliminary POPs inventories and assessments of national infrastructure and capacity.
This plan will provide a basic and essential level of information to enable policy and strategic decisions to be made and to identify priority activities that Lesotho should undertake in order to meet the requirements of the Stockholm Convention.
