National Cleaner Production Centre (NCPC)

The programme aims at increasing the competitiveness and the productive capacity of South Africa's industry through building national capacity in cleaner production (CP), fostering dialogue between industry and government and enhancing investments to transfer and develop environmentally sound technologies. This will contribute to facilitating the market access of the national economy and strengthening the economy in a way compatible with environmental protection and social development.
The National Cleaner Production Centre (NCPC) aims to enhance the competitiveness and productive capacity of industries, focusing on SME's through CP techniques.
The NCPC was launched during the World Summit for Sustainable Development in Johannesburg 2002. This is a co-operation program between South Africa and UNIDO with financial assistance from the DTI, CSIR and the Governments of Austria and Switzerland. The NCPC is hosted at the CSIR's Manufacturing and Materials Business Unit, Pretoria and since 2006, the NCPC is entirely financed by the DTI. It is a well established and recognized centre providing services to South African industries and SMEs.
