Automotive component supplier development programme

The automotive industry is South Africa’s leading manufacturing sector. To encourage the sector’s transformation into a globally competitive industry, UNIDO, the South African Department of Trade and Industry (the dti) and the Automotive Industry Development Centre (AIDC), a South African government-owned agency, are seeking to strengthen support services to the automotive industry in order to increase the local production of automotive components and to support the growth of sustainable employment in the sector.
The objective of this project is to improve the competitiveness of SME suppliers in the automotive component industry in South African to improve their competitiveness and enable them to participate in the local and international supply chains.
This will be achieved by placing the AIDC in a position to deliver services that enable firms to achieve gains in plant-level efficiency and cost savings as a result of better working practices.
