Diagnostic study of rooibos and honey bush tea for product value addition and promotion of exports
Rooibos and Honey bush tea has experienced a rapid increase in production and exports. However, its production is concentrated within a few South African companies exporting mainly to Germany with very little value addition in the country.
UNIDO was requested to conduct a comprehensive strategy for the value addition and marketing of the rooibos and honey bush teas in local and international markets. A substantial work related to the geographical indications had been already conducted by the University of Pretoria. Therefore a partnership has been concluded with the University of Pretoria to assess potential international market penetration of South African rooibos and honey bush final product.
The final report should support the development of a comprehensive strategy for the value addition and marketing of the product in local and international market.
