Selected Activities

Overview

At the country level, UNIDO operates within the framework of an Integrated Industrial Development Programme, which is designed to address country-specific industrial development needs in a comprehensive manner.

However, the way of operating in the country has undergone profound changes and challenges over the past years, stemming from the increasing need to coordinate and harmonize interventions with other UN agencies and development partners active in the United Republic of Tanzania.

Areas of intervention

UNIDO has streamlined its work to focus on three thematic priority areas of

  • Poverty Reduction through Productive Activities: UNIDO addresses Poverty Reduction by focusing on enabling the poor to earn a living. As such, UNIDO focuses on micro, small and medium scale enterprise development and rural & agro-industrial development.
  • Trade Capacity Building: UNIDO support to trade capacity building combines building up the technical infrastructure required to participate in international trade and strengthens key export sectors that require support services in upgrading the productive and export capacities.
  • Energy and Environment: Energy has been a core work area of UNIDO for over 30 years, focusing on energy efficiency and renewable energy).

UNIDO has been active in all these thematic priorities in the URT.
