Industrial Statistics project

The project’s purpose is to conduct a survey of manufacturing establishments and create a database in the Ministry of Industry

It is implemented jointly by UNIDO and the Ministry of Industry with close cooperation of the Association of Lebanese Industries (ALI). The implementation started in April 2006.

Major Achievements:

• The survey was planned, hardware and software were installed and a questionnaire was designed. In July when the experts were in Beirut to train the field staff and to launch the survey, the conflict broke suddenly in July 2006. UNIDO experts were evacuated and all activities were postponed.  
• Follow up trainings and consultation meetings were held in Amman and Vienna. Last May the expert was to visit Beirut, but he was forced to cancel the mission for security reasons. The census has not been started, but all preparations have been completed.  
• According to the Ministry of Industry, project directors and field researchers have been trained as of 28 July 2008, by a team from the Ministry of Industry.  The actual field research will take around five-month period as of 5 August to be completed, and based on the conclusions of the study, the Ministry of Industry will periodically publish indices related to the activities, productivity and exports related to the industrial sector.
