AfrIPANet IV, 24-25 October 2008, Durban, South Africa

Evidence-Based Investment Promotion Strategies and Policies to support Africa's Industrialization and Growth Strategy

The 4th AfrIPANet meeting is being held immediately before the Conference of African Ministers of Industries (CAMI-18, 24-28 October 2008) and the CEO Roundtable, organized by the African Investor Magazine (27-28 October 2008). Its main focus is dedicated to the findings and conclusions to be reported to the Ministers of Industries, in order to enable investment issues to become an important part of the CAMI Agenda. This is in recognition of the fact that the investment promotion mandate is a key pillar, which underpins the strategy to transform and develop the economies of Africa through industrialization.

The basic objectives of the meeting are to:

  • Discuss issues affecting the investment promotion and industrialization process in the Africa region and to mainstream the conclusions and findings into the deliberations of the CAMI Meeting.
  • Bring the investment promotion stakeholders in Africa together on a common platform to learn and share experience about new approaches and best benchmark experiences and particularly its implications for their respective mandates.
  • Inform the investment promotion stakeholders and the UNIDO programme collaborators about the next stage of the programme and the rollout of the 2009 Survey in their countries.
  • To discuss and build consensus on the implementation and governance structures to be established in the survey countries for the 2009 Survey and the respective obligations of the participating institutions and UNIDO.
  • To consider and approve the AfrIPANet Memorandum of Association to strengthen the expanding structure and enable it to support UNIDO and the other agencies.

The AfrIPANet Meeting brings together its member Investment Promotion Agencies, the private sector stakeholders such as the Chambers of Commerce, the National Industry Associations and representatives of the National Statistics Offices (NSOs) in Africa.
