Study addressing the current financial crisis affecting productive and manufacturing industries

A study on “Perception of the impact of, and responses to, the current global financial crisis by productive and manufacturing industries in Tunisia"” (including 9 other selected countries) has been carried out during the first months of 2009 with the following scopes:

1.    Identify the relative significance of the global financial crisis and its impact among the sub-sectors within manufacturing industry and for the sector as a whole;
2.    Explaining why and how certain sub-sectors have been or will be affected more than others within manufacturing industry and why and how manufacturing industry has been affected vis-à-vis other sectors;
3.    Describing and analyzing the situations, perceptions and responses of the companies and employees in the affected sub-sectors in the manufacturing industry and identifying possible government responses.

UNIDO will create a report to communicate the impact of the financial crisis on industries in developing countries to Member States. In light of this objective, the most important part of the study will be the perception of business managers and government officials with regard to manufacturing industries for different sub-sectors. This explains the choice to use a methodology that comprehends both desk study and field cases followed by analytical discussion and implications based on the results of the studies.
