2011 Bluesky Award open for application globally

Bluesky Award 2011 activity is now open for applications globally. As in previous years, this year’s award will be focusing on the Application of New Technologies for Renewable Energy Utilization. The Awards Ceremony will be held on 18 November 2011 at Shenzhen during the China Hi-tech Fair.

The Bluesky Award activity is sponsored by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), with the Shenzhen International Technology Promotion Center for Sustainable Development (ITPC) as the organizer. Potential applicants shall be in the field of renewable energy utilization, including the use of solar energy, wind energy, hydro energy, biomass energy, geothermal energy, ocean energy, hydrogen energy, and energy savings. The aim of the Bluesky Award programme is to promote the industrialized utilization of renewable energy in the developing countries by showcasing successful demonstrations of winning technologies. This activity is mainly financially sponsored by the Shenzhen Energy Group Co., Ltd.

BlueSky Awards have been held successfully in 2005, 2006 and 2009. Hundreds of renewable energy technologies from more than a dozen countries, including Germany, the United States, Canada, Russia, Belarus, Japan, Australia, Brazil, India, the Philippines as well as China, have applied for a BlueSky Award. 28 technologies have won the BlueSky Award and 32 technologies have won the Nominee Prizes, and the most of the winning technologies have found capital for their industrialized application.

The criteria by which applications will be judged are as follows:

  1. The technology could greatly reduce the cost for renewable energy development;
  2. It has the potential for successful commercial application, with great market potential for large-scale application.

The showcase of the nominated technologies will be arranged at the China High-Tech Fair (CHTF) and the evaluation will be conducted by BlueSky Award Evaluation Expert Committee (BA-EEC) who are well-known scientists and experts in renewable energy utilization from diverse countries, including Mr. Edward Clarence-Smith, UNIDO Representative and Head, Regional office, Prof. Luguang YAN, Member of China Academy of Science and so on. The winning technologies will be promoted through websites, newsletters, publications and meetings of UNIDO network globally.
