QUITO, 11 June 2012 – During his three-day official visit to Ecuador, the Director-General of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), Kandeh K. Yumkella, met with President Rafael Vincente Correa Delgado.
They discussed, among other topics, the need for Ecuador to use its resources to encourage the promotion of green growth and green industries to achieve sustainable industrial development.
Pledging to use his organization’s resources to help Ecuador achieve its goals, Yumkella said that UNIDO projects for the country, totaling some USD 2.5 million, focus on the provision of technical assistance, energy access and equipment to be used in the removal of toxic substances affecting the ozone layer.
The Minister of Industry and Productivity, Verónica Sión de Josse, also took part in the meeting.
Yumkella will also pay an official visit to Peru, a then attend the UN Conference on Sustainable Development in Rio de Janeiro.
