CAIRO, 17 November 2011 - The Cairo Office of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) today marked Africa Industrialization Day. This year the theme of the annual event is “Energy Poverty in Africa”.
The marking of the Africa Industrialization Day provided a basis for discussion of issues crucial for the economic and industrial development of Egypt. Government officials, representatives of international organizations and the private sector noted the importance of the policy environment affecting the renewable energy sector, the energy efficiency and renewable energy potential in Egypt, as well as opportunities and challenges for local manufacturing, regional cooperation, and financing.
The Africa Industrialization Day is an annual event hosted by UNIDO. It provides an opportunity for African countries to reflect on the progress made towards achieving strategic and sustainable industrial development. The 20 November was proclaimed as the Africa Industrialization Day by the UN General Assembly in 1989.
