Egypt - Country Programme
After a visit by the UNIDO Director-General to Egypt in June 2007 ...
... a new Country Programme for Egypt was formulated that involves the following areas of assistance:
- extension of the already existing project entitled "Traceability of agro-industrial products for the European market";
- an export consortia programme that had been specifically requested by the Egyptian Export Promotion Centre;
- support for SME cluster development activities;
- as well as a specific request for UNIDO technical assistance in formulating clean development mechanism projects in waste management and energy efficiency.
The Country Programme focuses further on creating employment opportunities, attracting investment and addressing environmental problems facing the country.
The 17th Conference of the African Ministers of Industry (CAMI) took place at Cairo, Egypt, from 19 to 21 June 2006, hosted by the Government of Egypt. The theme of the three-day conference, “Productive Capacity: Africa's Challenge to Global Trade”, drew representatives from fifty UNIDO Member States. On that occasion, based on close cooperation already in progress between UNIDO and the African Union, an agreement was signed between the two organizations.
