On 29 May 2007, AIDMO held a Symposium on South-South cooperation on industry and energy: Challenges and opportunities, at Rabat, Morocco.  The symposium was co-organized with Morocco’s Minister of Energy and attended by all Deputy Ministers of Industry of Arab countries.  During this occasion, Kandeh K. Yumkella, UNIDO Director-General, was a keynote speaker.  He deliberated, inter alia, on UNIDO experience in South-South cooperation – particularity with India and China.

In this context, the Director-General and the Director-General of AIDMO, Mr. Mohamed Ben Youssef, signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at strengthening and institutionalizing partnership and cooperation between AIDMO and UNIDO.  The memorandum covers poverty reduction through productive activities, trade capacity-building, energy and environment, and South-South cooperation.
