Investment and Technology Promotion Office in Seoul

General information

With the support of the Foreign Affairs & Trade Ministry of Korea, UNIDO ITPO Seoul is actively engaged in assisting small and medium enterprises of Korea for their starting business in developing countries.

Main function of ITPO Seoul is to facilitate outward flow of investments by Korean firms, however, we have also promoted inward flow of investments since the Asian financial crisis hit the nation in late 1997.

Entrepreneurs of any countries who have interests in business collaborations with Korean industrialists are welcomed to contact ITPO Seoul.

Services

The programme priorities of ITPO Seoul, which are being directed towards small and medium-scale enterprises in Korea, are in the following areas:

  • Dissemination of investment opportunities

ITPO Seoul collects prospective joint venture projects through UNIDO's ITPN and disseminates them to suitable firms of Korea. Advanced IT tools and electronic devices are used for this purpose.

  • Promotion of business collaborations through UNIDO fora

ITPO Seoul mobilizes Korean business participants to investment and technology related fora/exhibitions organized by UNIDO. Assistance is given on a continual basis till business collaborations are concluded.

  • Country presentation seminar

ITPO organizes country promotion seminars in Korea with visiting delegations from developing economies, in order to present Korean business circles with in-depth investment climate of those countries.

  • Delegate programme

Hosting of delegate continues to be priority programme of ITPO Seoul in 2000, which aims at furthering industrial cooperation between Korea and delegate's home country. Study tour teams to Korea are also welcomed if extra-budgetary funds are available.

  • Inward flow of investment

ITPO has assisted SMBA(government agency in charge of SMB policies and administration) in organizing "Techno Plaza of SMB" every year. With the help of ITPO network (especially ITPO Beijing and Warsaw), 15 Chinese in 1998 and 8 Polish businessmen in 1999 visited Korea to attend the event. ITPO invites those who want business expansion into Korea, to the 5th Techno Plaza to be held this year.

  • Pre-feasibility studies of industrial projects

ITPO offers feasibility study service for investment projects with software developed by UNIDO, in particular COMFAR III Expert and its mini version.

Korean industries undergoing restructuring process such as textile and footwear, as well as the industries which have big demands from emerging economies such as machinery equipment and food processing, are given priorities sectorwise by ITPO Seoul.
