Promotion and implementation of Closing-the-Loops cooperation and business models in the chemical industry
Title Workshop-Chemical Leasing.

Abstract

Within its new strategy SIRM (Sustainable Industrial Resource Management), the UNIDO CP unit has recently launched a new programme on fostering closing-the-loops cooperation and business models in the chemical sector, focusing on Chemical Leasing. This project is supported by the Austrian Ministry of Environment and the first training for the participating countries Egypt, Mexico and Russia (St. Petersburg) has taken place at UNIDO HQ in Vienna, 2-4 March 2005.

The project aims at changing the relation between manufacturer and user, where manufacturers shift from selling products to supplying services. The target sector is the chemical industry, which is expected to shift from the traditional business concept that focuses on a constant increase in sales volume towards a more service and value-added approach. This will be achieved through the development of specific business models that implement the above-indicated Chemical Leasing concept. To show the applicability and impact of the concept in the participating countries a number of demonstration projects applying such business models will be carried out during the up-coming 18 months.
