| Abstract |
The paper describes the role of women in manufacturing, their gradual economic empowerment, and their contribution to industrial development of their countries as entrepreneurs. Their economic performance is equally noteworthy in SME activities and in the informal sectors. On the grounds of UNIDO assessment missions to several African countries in the 1990s the paper presents a comparative analysis based on findings in Côte dIvoire, Ethiopia, Mali, Morocco, Senegal and Zimbabwe. The methodology used has been a coordination of desk research with field research and of interviews conducted with various stakeholders, especially women entrepreneurs. |
