Germany's Ambassador Klaus-Peter Gottwald presents his credentials

The new Permanent Representative of Germany to UNIDO, Klaus-Peter Gottwald, presented his credentials today to UNIDO Deputy to the Director-General, Haruko Hirose.

Prior to his current appointment, Mr. Gottwald was serving as Deputy Chief of Mission of the German Embassy in Washington D.C. (2003-2006).

Mr. Gottwald has served in many capacities in the course of his career, including as Director for North America and Deputy Spokesman for the former Foreign Minister Hans-Dietrich Genscher at the Foreign Office in Berlin (1998-2002). Foreign assignments include a secondment at the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office, and at the German Embassy in London (1993-1998), as well as at the political department of the German Embassy in Washington D.C. (1987-1990).

Prior to his career in the German Foreign Service, Mr. Gottwald worked as head of the United Nations Development Programme's regional office in Kaduna, Nigeria.

Mr. Gottwald studied at the universities of Mannheim, Frankfurt and Konstanz and holds an M.A. in international relations from Syracuse University. He is married and has three children.
