The new Permanent Representative of Lesotho to UNIDO, Ambassador Makase Nyaphisi, presented his credentials today to Director-General Kandeh K. Yumkella.

Dr. Nyaphisi was appointed Ambassador of Lesotho to Germany in 2006 and also accredited to France, Austria and the Holy See.

Prior to his current appointment (since 2002), Dr. Nyaphisi was a medical consultant and Public Health specialist to Lesotho's Mokhotlong Government Hospital and Director of the Nalei Medi-Clinic.

From 1991 to 2001, Dr. Nyaphisi was seconded to the Lesotho Highlands Development Authority (LHDA) as a Public Health Officer with the responsibility of designing and implementing a public health programme in the Highlands Water Project Areas. Within the LHDA he rose to the position of Deputy General Manager, Environmental and Social Services, responsible for the implementation of the Environmental Action Plan, which included rural development, public health, compensation and resettlement.

Ambassador Nyaphisi obtained his medical degree in 1981, from Martin Luther University, Halle-Wittenberg, Germany.

He is married with four children.
