The new Permanent Representative of El Salvador, Ambassador Vanessa Eugenia Interiano Tobar, presented her credentials today to Deputy to the Director-General, Yoshiteru Uramoto.

Immediately prior to her current appointment (since August 2005), Ambassador Interiano was Minister Counsellor at the Permanent Mission of EI Salvador to the UN in New York. Before assuming the latter role, the Ambassador was from (April 2003 - August 2005) Counsellor at the Permanent Mission in New York.

During her stay in New York, the Ambassador did considerable work on South-South cooperation, serving in December 2003 as a member of the official delegation to the High Level Conference on South-South Cooperation in Marrakesh, Morocco, then as head of delegation to the Eleventh Session of the Intergovernmental Follow-up and Coordination Committee on Economic Cooperation among Developing Countries, held in Cuba. In June 2005, the Ambassador went to Doha as a member of the official delegation to the Second South-South Summit.

Before taking up the New York posting, Ambassador Interiano was (from May 2000 - April 2003) Counsellor and Charge of Consular Affairs at the Embassy of EI Salvador in Paris, to France, Portugal and Monaco.

The Ambassador joined El Salvador's Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1996. From May 1996 to August 1997, she was First Secretary at the Press Office of the Embassy of EI Salvador in Washington D.C, USA. From August 1997 to August 1998, she was working on the Expert Presidential Commission for the Modernization of the Public Sector. The following two years (from August 1998 to May 2000) were spent as Adviser to the Minister of Foreign Affairs. Following that, as mentioned above, she went to El Salvador's Embassy in Paris.

Ambassador Interiano obtained a Masters Degree in Diplomatic Studies from the Diplomatic Academy of London, University of Westminster, England, in the Paris Campus in France. She graduated with a B.A. in Public Relations and Advertising from the University Leonardo Da Vinci in EI Salvador, and pursued specialized studies in Diplomacy and European Studies at the International Institute of Public Administration, Paris, France.

She speaks Spanish, French and English, has knowledge of Italian, as well as some German and Arabic.
