The new Permanent Representative of Botswana, Ambassador Boometswe Mokgothu presented his credentials today to Deputy to the Director-General, Yoshiteru Uramoto.

Mr. Mokgothu held the post of Minister of Minerals, Energy and Water Affairs of Botswana from 1999 to 2004.

The new Permanent Representative of Botswana started his career as a primary school teacher, and then worked in the agriculture sector. In 1984, he entered Parliament, becoming Assistant Minister of Local government, Lands and Housing in 1992. He held that position until October 1999, when he became Minister of Minerals, Energy and Water Affairs.

Ambassador Mokgothu holds a Primary Teachers Certificate from the Francistown Teachers College, a Certificate in General Agriculture from the Botswana Agricultural College and a Diploma in General Agriculture from the University of Botswana and Swaziland.

The new Permanent Representative of Botswana to UNIDO was born on 4 March 1948 in Letlhakeng. He is married and has five children.
