The new Permanent Representative of Libya to UNIDO, Ambassador Ahmed Abdulhameed Menesi presented his credentials today to Director-General Kandeh K. Yumkella at UNIDO HQ in Vienna.

Immediately prior to his current appointment (from March 2006 to January 2007), Ambassador Menesi was Libya's Minister of Finance. Prior to that, he was for five years (March 2001 to March 2006), Governor of the Central Bank of Libya.

The Ambassador began his career in 1972 as Professor of Economics at the University of Garyounis, Libya. Obtaining a Ph.D in Economics at the University of Cologne, Germany in 1973, Ambassador Menesi remained at the University of Garyounis until 2001.

For a short period before joining the Central Bank of Libya in 2001, Ambassador Menesi was simultaneously Chairman and General manager of the Wahda Bank of Libya (September 2000 to March 2001).
