Global Renewable Energy Forum, 18-21 May 2008, Brazil
The Global Renewable Energy Forum will serve as a platform to enable the discussion process concerning the potential of renewable energy sources, particularly hydro energy and bio-fuels at the global level. The aim is to share ideas, strategies and best practices with other regions in order to establish strong linkages oriented to increase specific joint actions for enhancing the use of renewable energies worldwide.
International Conference on Renewable Energy in Africa, 16-18 April 2008, Dakar, Senegal
Making use of lessons learnt and experience gained with renewable energy projects in Africa and elsewhere, the conference will examine how bottlenecks to renewable energy market related to policies, technologies, financing and capacity can be addressed so as to tackle energy challenges in Africa.
Working Group Meeting: Towards an International Energy Management System Standard, 9-11 April 2008, Beijing, China
The specific objectives of the international Working Group Meeting are to provide an international context for the development of a framework for an international management system standard for energy, to develop a shared understanding of the scope and intent of an ISO MS and to discuss commonalities and differences between existing and draft national energy management system standards. In addition, the event will provide an opportunity to review the scope of the planned UNIDO regional studies, including a proposed survey of industry in a number of emerging economies, to discuss avenues for integrating the outcomes into the ISO process and to contribute preparatory harmonization work for the development of the ISO MSE.
United Nations Climate Change Conference, 3-14 December 2007, Nusa Dua, Bali, Indonesia (COP 13 and CMP 3)
This conference, hosted by the Government of Indonesia, will bring together representatives of over 180 countries together with observers from intergovernmental and nongovernmental organizations and the media. The two weeks period includes the sessions of the Conference of the Parties to the UNFCCC, its subsidiary bodies as well as the Meeting of the Parties of the Kyoto Protocol. A ministerial segment in the second week will conclude the Conference.
Regional Workshop on Sustainable Biofuels Production and Use in Central & Eastern Europe, 12-13 November 2007, Dubrovnik, Croatia
This workshop will promote the sustainable production and use of biofuels and will provide a forum for knowledge-sharing for ministries, the Chamber of Commerce and other national stakeholders from various sectors. The event should provide an opportunity to discuss all aspects related to biofuels, experiences and lessons learned.
COMFAR III Expert - Basic Workshop on Financial Appraisal Software, 24- 28 September 2007, Vienna, Austria
UNIDO will organize this 5-day basic training workshop on the project appraisal software COMFAR III Expert (Computer Model for Feasibility Analysis and Reporting). The training is arranged for COMFAR III Expert-users with basic and advanced knowledge of the software.
High-Level Event on Climate Change, 24 September 2007, UN Headquarters, NY
This conference will promote the discussion on possible ways to move the international community toward negotiations on a new global agreement on climate change.
Introduction of Energy Management Standards in the Countries of South East Asia, 19-21 September 2007, Kanchanaburi, Thailand
This experts group meeting was jointly organized by the Energy Efficiency and Climate Change Unit of UNIDO and the Department of Industrial Promotion (DIP) of Thailand. The event provided an opportunity for the 45 delegates from energy policy-making and standards setting institutions of 5 ASEAN countries (Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, The Philippines and Vietnam), energy efficiency experts and representatives of Thai industry to discuss energy issues and offer feedback to UNIDO proposals.
This seminar, organized by the African Union Commission, the Government of Brazil and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) sought to brief policy makers, the private sector, regional institutions and other key stakeholders on the potential and risks and trade-offs of developing biofuels in Africa.
Renewable Energy and Energy efficiency partnership (REEEP), Australia - New Zealand Climate Change and Business Conference, 30 August 2007, Australia, New Zealand
This business conference will focus on key issues including emissions trading, emerging carbon markets, technologies, policy settings and investment opportunities for business. The event will involve key Australian federal and state politicians, the New Zealand Climate Change Minister and senior executives of several major corporates.
Vienna Climate Change Talks 2007, 27-31 August 2007, Vienna, Austria
The fourth session of the Ad Hoc Working Group on Further Commitments for Annex I Parties under the Kyoto Protocol (AWG 4) and the fourth workshop under the dialogue on long-term cooperative action will take place at the Austria Center Vienna (ACV) from 27 to 31 August 2007. The talks will address climate change issues and will provide an opportunity to enhance the implementation of the Convention.
UNIDO/REEEP activities in energy efficiency
UNIDO, in partnership with REEEP, will conduct a side event on the UNIDO/REEEP activities in energy efficiency. The event will provide an overview of policies for promoting industrial energy efficiency and will discuss energy efficiency in CDM. In Addition, UNIDO and REEEP activities in energy efficiency will be presented.
UNITED NATIONS COMMISSION ON SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT SIDE EVENT - Sustainable Industrial Development: Greening Industry, May 2007, NY
In order to highlight the contribution of industrial development to sustainable development and poverty reduction, UNIDO, with the support of the Austrian Government and the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Partnership (REEEP), organized a one-day event during CSD-15 that examined a number of aspects related to sustainable industrial development and its links to the other themes of CSD-15. Panel discussions provided an opportunity for experts from government, business, civil society and international organizations to discuss industrial development issues and the promotion of efficient use of energy.
Vienna Energy Efficiency and Climate Meetings, March 2007, Vienna, Austria
The Vienna energy efficiency and climate meetings, organized by UNIDO at the Vienna International Center, offered new insights on how to reduce energy inefficiency in industry, save increasingly expensive fuel and power and control the growth of industrial greenhouse gas emissions in developing countries. The meetings provided excellent networking opportunities for business and industry as well as policy makers and other stakeholders involved in industrial energy efficiency, energy management standards and the implementation of carbon trading and project-based carbon financing.

First Seminar on Linking the Kyoto Project-Based Mechanisms with the EU ETS, 15-16 September 2005, Vienna, Austria
UNIDO, in cooperation with the Government of Hungary, the UK Trade and Investment department and the European Commission organized this seminar to advance the understanding and operationalization of emissions trading and its linkages with the CDM and JI. It provided an opportunity for expert discussion and knowledge sharing among the countries that recently joined the EU, the accession countries and countries with economies in transition that are themselves likely to become hosts of JI projects.
Second joint seminar on the technology diffusion in central and Eastern Europe and the CIS, 28-29 October 2004
Focused on linkages between Climate Change and Energy Efficiency, the Seminar reviewed best practices for the deployment of energy-efficient technology and considered how policies can create incentives for improving energy efficiency. Further, it identified major barriers to the diffusion of energy efficient technologies in CEE and CIS.
Industry Seminar on Technology Diffusion in Eastern Europe and Central Asia - expert group meeting on industrial energy efficiency and carbon financing, 28-29 October 2003, Vienna, Austria
UNIDO in cooperation with the Austrian Ministry of Economy and Labor and the Climate Change Initiative (CTI) organized this meeting in 2003. The aim of the meeting was to identify how carbon financing can accelerate the uptake of energy efficient technologies and systems in the industrial sector using the Kyoto Protocol’s Clean Development Mechanism (CDM), and Joint Implementation (JI).
Expert Group Meeting on Industrial Energy Efficiency and Climate Change Mitigation, 2-3 December, 1999, Vienna, Austria
Organized by UNIDO in co-operation with the International Cogeneration Alliance (ICA) and International Institute for Energy Conservation (IIEC), the meeting aimed at improving the awareness of industrial energy efficiency. It provided an opportunity for policy-makers, consultants, industry professionals and managers from developing countries to discuss technical and managerial aspects of energy efficiency/cogeneration technologies, to share knowledge and to address energy issues.
