The new Permanent Representative of Greece to UNIDO, Ambassador Panayotis Zografos presented his credentials today to UNIDO Director-General, Kandeh K. Yumkella.

Immediately prior to his Vienna appointment, Ambassador Zografos was (from July 2005 to June 2007) Director of the NATO-Western European Union -(WEU) Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Athens. It is the Ambassador's second posting to Vienna. He was here early in his career (from 1979-1981).

After his first posting to Vienna, Ambassador Zagrafos went back to Athens for a short time and then, in 1983 to Beirut as Deputy Head of Mission, rising to First secretary in 1985, when he moved to Hanover, Germany, as Consul General.

From 1988 to 1990 Mr. Zografos was with the Embassy of Greece in Caracas, first as Deputy Head of Mission and then, between 1989 and 1990, as Chargé d'Affaires.

In 1990 the Ambassador moved to Madrid as Deputy Head of Mission. Mr. Zografos was with the mission in Spain until 1994 (as First Counselor from 1991). In 1994 he moved back to Athens, was promoted to Minister Plenipotentiary Second Class in 1997 and moved to Yerevan, Armenia as Ambassador, from August 1998 to November 2001. Between November 2001 and May 2005, Mr. Zografos was Ambassador of Greece to Israel, during which time (in 2003) he was promoted to Minister Plenipotentiary First Class.

Ambassador Zografos graduated in Law from the University of Athens in 1976. In addition to his native Greek, the Ambassador speaks German, English, Spanish and French. He is married with one son.
