The New Permanent Representative of Brazil to UNIDO, Ambassador Julio Cezar Zelner Gonçalves, presented his credentials today to Director-General Kandeh K. Yumkella.

Prior to his current appointment, Mr. Gonçalves was serving as Consul General in Lisbon, Portugal (since 2004).

Mr. Gonçalves has served in many capacities in the course of his career, including as: Special Adviser to the Vice-President at the Presidency of Brazil (1999 - 2004), Ministry-Counsellor, Embassy of Brazil, The Hague (1994 - 99), Head of Division, Department of Science and Technology, Ministry of External Relations (1992 - 94), Head, Cabinet of the Federal Administration, Ministry of External Relations (1991 - 92), Head, Division of Financial Policy, Ministry of External Relations (1990 - 91), Counsellor, Permanent Mission of Brazil, Geneva (1987 - 90), Counsellor, Embassy of Brazil, Mexico (1981 - 85) and Second then First Secretary, Permanent Mission of Brazil to the United Nations, New York (1977 - 1981).

Mr. Gonçalves holds a degree in law studies from the Federal University in Rio de Janeiro.
