COMPETE WP5 Meeting – Financing and International Trade: Competence
Platform on Energy Crop and Agroforestry Systems for Arid and Semi-arid
Ecosystems - Africa, 15 April 2008, Dakar, Senegal
This internal COMPETE workshop will provide an opportunity to present and discuss financing mechanisms for bio energy and agro forestry projects in arid and semi-arid regions of Africa. In addition, it will examine the effectiveness and future opportunities of such projects. Work Package leaders will also present activities that have been carried out so far under the COMPETE project and discuss future activities with a special focus on the deliverables required by the project.
Side Event on UN-Energy/Africa, April 15, 2005, Dakar, Senegal
UN-Energy/Africa is a UN Interagency collaborative mechanism in energy and the Energy Sub/Cluster in the UN Regional Consultative Framework in support of the African Union and the AU-New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD). Members of UN-Energy/Africa include UN agencies, programmes and Funds, and selected non-UN organizations such as the African Union Commission, NEPAD, and the African Development Bank. UN-Energy/Africa is holding a meeting on the side of the International Renewable Energy Conference on April 15, 2005 at the Meridien President Hotel. The meeting is opened to members only. The main objective of the meeting is to finalize the 2008-2009 programme of work, that includes activities related to energy access in Africa, African energy Vision, biofuel development, and capacity building for Regional integration in Africa.

2nd Workshop on Regional Activities for Increased Access to Energy in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA), 15 April 2008, Dakar, Senegal
As requested by the participants of the first Workshop on Regional Activities for Increased Access to Energy in SSA in Berlin in March 2007, EUEI PDF is now hosting a follow-on workshop in April 2008 in Dakar, Senegal. The objectives of this one day working level meeting are to learn from recent experiences of Regional Organisations in the development and implementation of energy access strategies, and to identify opportunities for cooperation between each other and with the EU (European Commission and EU member states). Participation is limited to representatives from each Regional Organisation (CEMAC, COMESA, EAC, ECOWAS, SADC, and UEMOA) with particular interest and involvement in this subject as well as selected African Union, European Union and donor representatives.
Success Stories of Renewables in Africa - A Side Event, 18 April, 2008, Dakar, Senegal
This event will address the potential of renewable energy in Africa, the current use of renewable energy in Africa, success stories of renewable energy projects in Africa as well as innovative measures for scaling up renewable energy in Africa. Copies of detailed study reports will be distributed to the participants.
