Arab regional guidelines on good governance practices in national quality infrastructure launched in Tunisia

TUNIS, 10 April 2014 – Good governance guidelines for professionals working in the field of national quality infrastructure in the Arab region were launched in Tunis today.

The "Arab regional guideline on good governance and professional practices for organizations and personnel of the National Quality Infrastructure (NQI)” were prepared by the Arab Industrial Development and Mining Organization (AIDMO) and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO).

The ceremony was attended by Kamal Ben Nasser, Minister of Industry, Energy and Mines, as well as representatives of AIDMO, SIDA, and UNIDO, and professionals of the NQI and the private sector from Tunisia and the region.

The initiative is part of a project funded by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA) and implemented jointly by UNIDO and AIDMO. The project, which started in 2011, is supporting the implementation of the Arab regional standardization strategy with a focus on the regional coordination on accreditation.

As part of the project, UNIDO organized a series of regional workshops that brought together over 120 professionals of the NQI from fifteen countries and helped raise awareness of the principle of good governance practices in the development of national quality infrastructure. The workshops focused on good governance, standardization, conformity assessment, laboratories, expertise and advice, training and accreditation.

The workshops resulted in the elaboration of regional guidelines on good governance in three languages (AR/EN/FR) to promote professional practices in the areas of standardization, conformity assessment, quality, metrology, and other activities of the national quality infrastructure, as well as the associated professions of inspection, auditing, testing, consultancy and training.
