VIENNA, 30 January 2015 - For the fourth consecutive year, the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), together with the Central European University (CEU) in Budapest, is organizing a summer course on green industry, “Pathways Towards Inclusive and Sustainable Industrial Development”. The course will consist of a preliminary one-month online course and a two-week in-residence training at the CEU.
The course is targeted at young professionals in the fields of resource-efficient and cleaner production (RECP), members of non-governmental organizations involved in environmental advocacy, and PhD students with a background in technical or policy-related studies in green industry. It will be of interest to individuals in industry or in institutions assisting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with the implementation of RECP methods, environmental management systems (EMS), low carbon measures and eco-designs.
Participants are expected to have an academic background and/or practical knowledge of environmental management systems, green industry and resource efficiency, as well as of global and national policy frameworks for green industrial development.
The e-learning part of the course, conducted over one month, includes a number of readings, facilitated online discussions, case studies and an online test to ensure that participants share a common knowledge in the topic. The 25 most successful candidates from the online section will then be invited to the second part of the programme, a two-week residential course in Budapest.
Course participants will:
• reflect on the technical requirements of green industrial development as well as on the strategies, policies, laws and regulations necessary for its successful implementation;
• examine institutional platforms for the promotion and dissemination of resource efficient and cleaner production methods and economically viable, socially equitable and environmentally sustainable technologies;
• develop strategies for a green industry in line with socioeconomic and environmental goals and targets.
Women and candidates from developing countries are especially encouraged to apply. Furthermore, all applicants from developing countries are eligible to apply for full financial support from UNIDO (including travel, accommodation and catering for the duration of the second part of the programme).
Full information on eligibility and application requirements is available at www.summer.ceu.hu/green-2015. Please note that applications submitted by e-mail will not by accepted. (Participants from past UNIDO Institute trainings and UNIDO employees are not eligible to apply.)
Applications must be received by 20 February 2015.
The course is organized by the UNIDO Institute for Capacity Development in cooperation with the Central European University and the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland, as well as with support from the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs.
